Tattered and Torn

Fall approaches, and on its heels comes my most favorite of holidays.  I speak, of course, of Halloween.

You all are in trouble now.  You just thought I posted gothy before.  Between now and October 31st, I’m going to be baring my black little soul.

I don’t often stake out a lucky chair, but I made an exception for this Wild Woman hair from MiaSnow.

I’ve been anxiously looking for the perfect opportunity to wear this hair, and Ookami Ningen’s new beautiful and banshee-like Remains of the Night dress was just that chance.

There is a short list of things I’m always on the lookout for in SL clothing, and a well-done tattered dress is definitely towards the top.   I’ve been running circles around Zorena urging her to finish this dress. :D

I don’t normally go for a completely white skin, but I thought this outfit called for it.  Nomine’s goth skins are unique in that she uses a faint pink to flush the cheeks, giving it that just-fed pallor that all stylish vamps and ghouls should strive for.

Strange Citizen ~ Juana Manuel

La Costumière is a word the French use to describe someone who facilitates the costumes for theatrical productions. I can’t think of a better word to describe Juana, for whom SL is at once stage and dressing room and audience. I have known Juana since her first days in SL, and have been progressively dazzled by her growing assurance in how she presents herself to us. The costume she is wearing here reflects both her Spanish/American heritage and her interest in the rituals and customs of Meso-America. If this seems overly formal, sue me, I can’t help it. She is one cool chica.

*Hi doll, it’s Maddy. Well done on the Suntory shoot. You rocked their world. Yoshi just won’t shut up about you. He said you were SO intense! Look, I know this is your last day in Tokyo. But I just found out that Holger is doing an exhibition in Shibuya. I’ve texted details and a map to your phone. Could you swing by there on your way to Narita, and pick me up a catalogue? I’ll owe you one!*

*taxi ride to Shibuya*

(Wow, this is some show. Love the pink! And here’s the catalogue too.)

*Excuse Miss? Are you Grady?*

(Why yes, I am.)

*Can I picture take, please? My name Midori.*

(*smiles*, Of course you may, Midori. In front of this lovely green one?)

*Hai!*

(And a closeup? Midori, my middle name is closeup. *smiles*)

*Domo arigato*

(You’re very welcome Midori! So nice to meet you! Please excuse me now, I see a Starbucks across the road, and they have a latte with my name on it!)

You mean they make it in something besides black?

So… after I rambled on last time about never wearing color, and overused words like  “monochrome,” and “texture variance,”  I promptly decided to prove myself wrong.

Decadent was working on an outfit with suspenders recently, and while helping her look I completely rediscovered these awesome jacket-layer ones from Thimbles, which had been sitting in my inventory for god knows how long.

Ok, just look at this backpack.  Is this not zomgawesome?  I don’t usually go for purses and bags and such in SL, because I get sick of lugging one around all the time in RL, and there really is no point to doing it in SL.  But this, as a fashion accessory?  Oh hell yes.  It looks like it should have something interesting inside, but alas it does not.

Punky Brewster was not beat up, robbed, and left stripped naked in an alley due to this post.  Honest.

The Woman in Black

In case anyone has failed to notice it by now, I dig monochrome.

I admire someone who can assemble a color-varied ensemble, but it’s not a look I ever feel comfortable in myself (with rare exceptions.)  The real challenge is to put together a limited-color look that doesn’t come off as a solid blob.  One way to bring that into play is with textures variance.

With today’s look, I’ve combined soft knit with smooth satin, giving a monochrome effect with high drama, but still allowing each piece to stand on it’s own merit.  (Well, I think so.  I hope you agree. :) )

I love the quirky juxtaposition of the flared shorts and the flowing, open skirt.  I tried to play that up with the unique and amazing new Harajuku Stomp boots from Dark Eden, the edgy spiked silver hair from Find ASH, and the chunky yet intricately crafted necklace from ZIPZ.  I promise I’m through raving about the jewelry from ZIPZ for the time being.  This is not so much because I’m tired of the shop, but because I’ve exhausted their selection. :(  Make no mistake, though.  I’ll be checking back often.

The new Dramatic line of skins from Gala are a perfect compliment, bold and sultry.  It takes something unique to coax me out of my Nomines for any extended period of time, and Gala skins have that in abundance.

You know where the SLurls are, dontcha?

In which Mourna dons a frilly dress…

A friend recently showed me some absolutely adorable 150 $L skins, and I had no choice but to slip into a lacy, poofy frock to show one of them off.

More jewelry from ZIPZ today.  I really enjoy their pieces.  They’re well-crafted and unique, intricately made but not dainty.

These wonderful new boots from Shiny Things have been blogged to pieces by now… but not by ME, dammit.  So there.

These skins really are a delightful find.  Short on body detailing, but the faces are darling.  And for 150 $L, they’re a steal.  I picked up two, but I’m saving the other for a future post.

This is where I make a witty title

So, I was bopping around the Grid the other day and asking myself “Oh where oh where have all the cool male goth clothes gone?”. Much to my surprise, I think I may have found some by revisting some of the more established stores. I am discovering that Discord Designs is my new favorite hair place as well. Yes this means you other hair designers better catch up on the male hair front.  Now enough of me sitting here beating my face against the keyboard wondering what the fuck I’m going to say next. On with the pictures.

Black & White (& Red All Over)

[Edited to add:  I totally gave the wrong slurl for ZIPS when I sent this post out last night.  Eep!  That's what I get for blogging at 1AM.  The correct SLurl is: ZIPZ, and it's been fixed after the cut as well.  Sorry about that.]

I have a helluva lot to show you today, so let’s get to it!

So I had put together outfit A, and was poking around SLX looking for some jewelry to go with, when I found store X, and outfit B was born.  But outfit B was so similar to outfit A, I decided to blog them both!  Then I saw that outfit B looked so fantastically smexy on person Z, I knew I had to include pictures of her as well.

*takes a breath*

Still with me?

Yeah, I don’t usually know what I’m talking about either.  HAI LOOK, PICTURES!

Outfit A:

I love this hair from Philotic Energy, although I’ve never worn it much because of the straight-bang style.  But I got off my butt last night and combined it with some ETD bangs, thereby elevating it to one of my favorite hairstyles.

This ensemble started as a happy accident.  When I was searching for the hairstyle in inventory (called Velvet,) I happened upon this corset from Silent Sparrow (also called Velvet,) and the match was just too delicious to pass up.

Now, I love these sculpted legwarmers.  Let’s get that out of the way, they’re absolutely darling.  Now it’s time for Mourna to do a little scolding.   After buying these legwarmers (and a few other items) at Moloko, I started receiving group spam from their store.  This is such an obnoxious business practice, I almost decided not to blog them.  Eventually my vanity got the better of me, but I couldn’t show them to you without a warning.  Group spam makes Mourna supersad.  It also makes her speak in third person, evidently…

So!  While searching for some skully jewelry on SLExchange (which I use as a kind of catalog for shopping inworld,) I happened upon the above skull cameo from ZIPZ.  I’m amazed I haven’t heard of this shop before!  Very cute stuff, I spent a bundle.  One of my favorites looked quite similar to the above ensemble, so I decided to blog them together.

I give you, Outfit B:

Poofy hair!  I just adore this ‘do.

One of the reasons I love this outfit so much is that multiple pieces are included, not the least of which are BOOTY SHORTS!  Yeah, my dirty secret is out.  :O

This set undresses really well.  Makes me want to jump on a pole, or something.  Maybe.  Or just splash my bum across the blog.  There we go.

I usually drag my good friend Zorena along with me when I shop, and we usually end up buying many of the same pieces.  When I saw how good this set looked on her, I couldn’t pass up giving you guys a peek.

RAWR!  Amirite?  Yeah, I’m right.

Lots of SLurls and details after the cut.
