Mourna - at a Silent Sparrow Near You!

To have one of your favorite creators design an outfit with you in mind is an honor.   For it to be so spot-on as something you’d love,  and drop-dead gorgeous,  is fully squee-worthy.  What I’m trying to say here is:  ZOMG HYA MADE AN OUTFIT NAMED AFTER ME AND IT’S AAAWWWESOMEEE!

*coughs*

In so many words.

The Mourna set from Silent Sparrow is part dancing silks, part burlesque.  I love the  sleek, velvety, button-up corset, the subtle little ruffles peeping out, the fingerless gloves, and so many other great little details.   And it is available in Hyasynth’s usual complement of rich colors that make it impossible to choose a favorite.

I’m wearing another one of the beautiful new Mosaic skins from Nomine.  And to complete the circle of my vanity, I had no choice but to choose one of the Mourna makeup styles.

I’m going to wrap this up, before I have to start resizing my hair to fit on my gigantic head.

Just a quick Look of the Day.

I apparently wasn’t quite through with the Valentine’s look yet, and I’m like a dog with a bone when I latch onto a theme.

Did I overdo it with the hearts?  Yeah, probably.

Vampy

Nomine has released a slew of new gothy black dresses in some really unique and beautiful styles.

For today’s post I’m wearing the vampy Lilim dress, and the vampy boy-shaped Achariya. ;)

You dreamed we could breathe underwater…

Be warned:  if I see you in something cool, I will nab it.  (And no anti-inspect device can stop me. ;))

Today’s boots are from Rebel Hope, and I nabbed them from Achariya.  (She’s looking fabulous in them over here.)  They’re just so soft and velvety looking; one of those things in SL I just wish I could reach out and touch.

The accessories I’m wearing are from LouLou&Co.   I visited this shop a while back, but their selection was pretty limited and I promptly forgot about them.  Then I saw the always-glamorous Munchflower wearing the necklace and belt, and I scurried over as fast as my little teleport could carry me.  They have really built up an impressive selection since I last went, and onto my regular-stop list they now go.

This set greatly appeals to me, with it perfect little beads, skulls, crosses, ribbons, and flowers.  The belt in particular deserves some close attention.  It’s very ornate, with lots of attached little baubles and links and well textured bits of leather.  It resizes easily, and fits like a dream.

I really love this shirt from Rotten Toe.  I have a weakness for stand-up collars, even if they are a pain to find hair and accessories for.  It comes with cool raggedy prim tails, but I couldn’t work them in with the belt.

I’m also wearing one of the new Enchanted skins from Cupcakes.  It’s always fascinating to me how much difference a skin can make on an avatar.  To me, Cupcakes skins have a very mature and… regal look to them.  Some of the complaints I had about previous Cupcakes skins (such as overly-severe body shading) have been addressed in this new line, while retaining all the thing I love about them.  They’re definitely worth checking out.  My only complaint with this new line is that the lightest skin tone is at least a few shades darker than their previous lightest.

Primrose

The Moonlit Goddess dress from The Black Canary is so cool and interesting.  It’s graceful and elegant and precious and cute all at the same time.  It made me feel very girly and well… sweet…  to wear it.  Not a look I usually go for, but I quite enjoyed it.  (I admit that my photography falls a bit short with this dress.  You really should see it in person to appreciate it.)

Sorry for the pink and sparkle explosion, by the way.   I was on a roll. >.>

The Moonlit Goddess comes with shirt and pant layers, a prim babydoll skirt, voluminous prim sleeves, prim bloomer bottoms, and neck and ankle ribbons (not shown.)

I think I spent longer trying to find shoes to wear with this dress than I ever have before.  I tried everything from prim feet to combat boots.  I finally ran across these really cute mary janes on XStreet.  I’m not sure if I quite nailed a perfect match, but the shoes are really cute so I stopped looking.  Two hours spent scouring for pretend shooz… why no, I don’t think that’s excessive.  Why do you ask?

I’m still playing around with all the gorgeous layering potential of Nomine’s new gypsy line.  Today’s look is built around the fabulous Mala Vida Jacket.

Putting together a gypsy look is a fun challenge.  Lush, flowing fabrics are layered in a way that comes off as slightly floaty, slightly stompy.  This kilt from EMO-tions totally fits that bill.  Rich red velvet swirls in ragged layers, topped by heavy belts, chains, and leather pouch.  (You can’t see it, but I have superstompy boots on underneath as well.  I love when I can wear my stompy boots with a long skirt.)

This Magdalena hair from EMO-tions is laced with silver beads and loops of wire.  It also comes with an optional adornment-free version.  I love it… one of my favorite messy updos.

I’m really irritated with SL snapshots right now.  Taking high-res snapshots to disk using the keyboard shortcut is buggered at the moment, so I have to use the snapshot tool.  The result is that photographing takes about twice as long, and I can’t focus my eyes on a particular spot for the shot.  Argh, so frustrating.

If you feel voting inclined, there is an open Jira issue concerning this.  Mourna will love you for it.

Ornaments of Gold

After I first discovered DE Designs, (sometime in the first year of my SLife) it was easily one of my top 5 favorite shops to hit for new clothes. Then all this fashion bloggins started happening, and I just found out about so many new places so quickly that my beloved DE got… pushed off my radar. It was nothing about the clothes, they were as beautiful as ever. Blame my bad short-term memory.
Well I was reminded recently, slapped myself good and hard, dropped by, and spotted this gorgeous ensemble. And I joined the handy Subscrib-O-matic, so I can never forget again. :D

The gorgeous Queenie set comes with a laced corset-style top, jacket, pants, panties, half skirt, bustle, and stockings.

All of the lovely ornate pieces of jewelry  that I’m wearing are from Studio Sidhe.   It’s so rare for me to want gold jewelry, but these are a lovely coppery shade of gold that I just couldn’t resist.  I’ve was really impressed with Studio Sidhe in general, and I picked up lots more great pieces that will find their way into future posts.

Best Served Cold

I was sorting through the huge bulk of DSN gifts I had received in the last couple of weeks, (yes, I’m lazy) when I ran across a very promising sample from She Wants Revenge.  I must admit that I was predisposed to view anything from this shop favorably, as they happen to be named after one of my favorite bands ever.  Happily, there was much more to admire, as they make some very cool latex/shiny items.  The quality and design was very nice, but unfortunately latexy stuff really doesn’t suit me.  I did pick up a few things for when I find myself in that mood, and I grabbed some other goodies including the skirt and scarf that I’m wearing today.

I have a fondness for this kind of disjointed, superflexi style of skirt.  It doesn’t look realistic exactly, but it works with the medium to create an effect that goes beyond what we can have in meatspace.  And it is  just lovely to dance in.

I popped by EtchD to check out a tattoo I saw on someone, and to my surprise I realized that I’d never been there before.  I think I confused it with a different, similarly named tattoo shop.    I picked up a zillion really great pieces, because they are lovely and because all of their tattoos are tintable, which is always greatly appreciated among us fair-and-fantasy-skinned folk.

Which reminds me… Mourna’s tip of the day!  For tinting tats to look faded on pale skin:  don’t just use a grey tint, as it will lay over your skin with a paint-like appearance.  Instead, try to pick up a little bit of your skintone with the color.  Just a smidge of yellowy red in a light grey gives it a nice translucency.

I am in love with these boots from Resurrection, which is saying a lot as I don’t instantly go for a platform in most cases.  But they’re sleek, well made, and quite irresistible.
