Olive Juice

I adore a good textile pattern in SL, so these new Olive sweater dresses from Ducknipple had me frothing at the ads.  They come in a variety of stripes and colors, so you should definitely check them out.  I love Ducknipple for their lovely textures, and for their prim clothing and accessories that always fit me perfectly right out of the box.   Belts, especially,  take a good bit of fiddling of linked prims on my part before I can wear them, but what you see here was edited not one bit.

This dress immediately reminded me of the ubiquitous, beloved Old Boots from Shiny Things.  I marvel that with all the advancements in sculpts we have now, these boots can still hold their own and hold it well.  How many other pairs of shoes from years ago would still look good today?

Also take note - fabulous new skins from Nomine!  The Mosaic line is a departure from what I’m used to from Nomine,  as they bring a touch more smooth realism.   I personally love both styles, but get a hankering for each at different times.  And of course these skins come in the Nomine skin tones and makeups that you know and love - including some previously Limited Edition makeups!  I’m particularly in love with the lips; just look at how soft and plump they are.

Goth Girls Need Schoolin’

It’s finally getting chilly here, thank goodness.  This summer has been particularly brutal, and I’m not sorry to see the back end of it.

In SL, my avie can dress for whatever season she likes.  But I find myself dressing for the season in a kind of celebration of it.   Today’s post is very much like something you might find me in, out here in the real world.  Only better, of course.

Sn@tch’s new Miss Prim and Proper set is so cozy, with it’s long cuddly sleeves and oversized collar.  A short flirty skirt (which fit with absolutely no resizing, I might add.) exposes adorable knit stockings, complete with garters and little skully fasteners.  The sweater underneath comes in a variety of colors.   I’m wearing the white, but have put a slight grey tint on it.  The sleeves do not actually have prim cuffs, but I dug around in inventory and found a set from another sweater.  One of the advantages of always wearing black, eh?

These boots from amaama immediately sparked my attention when I saw them on the Free*Style blog.  I must report that, although they look marvelous, they are not 3-dimensionally primmed.  That is to say, the laces and such are textured on to the boot prims.  Still, not much of a deterrent for me, especially considering the price tag ($L 170, a good deal for nicely sculpted and textured boots.)

Today I’m wearing one of the new Doll skins from Nomine.   These skins are as wonderfully shaded as we’ve come to expect from all of Munchflower’s work, and the unseamed version can be incorporated perfectly into less fantasy-oriented looks like I’ve done today.  But worry not, I do have a wicked dolly post in the works for the near future, to feature the seamed version.

As a straight-haired girl in real life, I dream of having fantastic bouncy curls like this new Cake ‘do.  Shush, just shush.  I can hear all you becurled folks just gearing up to tell me how annoying it is, and how you wish you had straight hair.  I don’t want to hear it. :P

Whiskey Contralto

I’ve been listening to a lot of Dresden Dolls and Jill Tracey lately.  Then I picked up one of the awesome new feather boas from Schadenfreude, and this look just kind of fell into place.

I’ve recently discovered the skins from Cupcakes, and I was delighted to find that they suit my av quite well.  They have a smooth  porcelain coloring, and lovely dark eyes and luscious lips.  I went a little crazy buying them last night, so I will definitely be featuring more in future posts.

Beauty + Beast

After spending three days wandering around Hair Fair, I have oh-so-many new goodies.  Instead of doing a Hair Fair post, I’m going to feature a new one with each ensemble for a while, because every new hair inspires a new outfit.

Today’s new hair is from Bish, a completely new shop to me.  This is what Hair Fair is all about for me: not just seeing new styles from my favorite designers, but finding new and different haunts.

I’m developing more and more of an affinity for fluffy, heavily alpha-textured hair.  If I never see another twisted, pointed, chunky, primmy looking torus, it’ll be too soon.  Alpha flickering is an issue, but going with black hair minimizes this.  And some creators handle it better than others, of course.

This hair is wild, and huge.  And called for an over-the-top ensemble.  Can you believe, I bought these boots at the Shoe Expo, and never even opened the box?  But I remembered them in a sudden stroke, and this look was born.

Nomine’s Aether skin line is usually one of my first stops for an unusual look.  The Bruise tone featured today is one of my favorites, but they’re all quite yummy.  This one tastes like grapes. ;)

Skully Io Silks at PixelDolls

Just a quick heads-up, PixelDolls has released a fantastic freebie!

And I’m a freebie snob, so you’d better listen up when I mention one. :P

Get thee to PixelDolls, grab the box with the skulls on just by the entrance, and worship Nephilaine Protagonist accordingly thereafter.

Bone choker, arm, and leg bands are from a set by Unique Needs.

Strap Happy

Mmmm…. straps.  Lots and lots of delicious straps…

A note on the Oshun Straps shown in this ensemble…

The set does not actually come with a belt, but does have a loincloth.  Being fully moddable, I pulled off the loinclothy part to leave only the top belts.  It also does not come with a choker or single leg strap, but I made them from the upper arm straps. Yay copy/mod!

I love this short hair by TheAbyss, by the way.  It’s floaty and wispy, and doesn’t have that pointy pineapple look in the back.  (Don’t ask me to explain it.  You know what I’m talking about. :p)

Strange Citizen: scrim Pinion

Strange Citizens:  A new series, in which I highlight unusual and distinctively styled avatars that I might know or run across.

And to show my obvious bias, I’m kicking it off with my SL partner and one of my best friends, scrim Pinion.

Scrim’s ensemble is a combination of pieces from three different outfits, all from Avid.  I generally steer clear of such heavily photo-sourced clothing, but you can’t deny that Avid does it well.

Kali made me do it.

Anyone who knows me probably knows that I’m almost obsessed with the Hindu pantheon.  So, there has been a post about Indian fashions brewing in my skull since I started this blog.  I assumed it would be about one of the beautiful sari or Indian jewelry sets available.

Then I ran across the Devata set at Sn@tch.

Punk Hindu!  squee!  Seriously, squee.

There is also a long sari-style skirt in the set, but I decided to punk it up a little further with a skirt from Hexed, and a pair of scrunchy legwarmers from Stellar Designs (which I’ve modded to match the top.)

My first stop for punky hair is always Magika, and this was a new-to-me style that I was delighted to find.   I had to show you the back, because the long glossy style is just too yummy.

Now I must warn you that the Devata tops are belly shirts.  Not being a big fan myself, I dug around in my inventory and found a long striped undershirt from Dutch Touch to wear underneath.

This set comes with 6 different tops, each featuring a different Hindu deity.  Which is good, because who wants to have to choose between the gods?

The featured black is Kali, who holds a special place in my heart.   There’s also a hot pink Lakshmi, a golden Ganesha, a blue Shiva, a light pink Vishnu, and a purple Tara.
